Started in 1960’s, members of CPS had been exchanging knowledge on film photography and post development. As technology advanced, digital cameras were widely used and computer hardware and software knowledge were in demand. CPS members attended community college learning the skills and knowledge, then created the teaching materials to members of CPS.
Vice Chari of the Board Johnny Lee and Advisor Carson Woo were the pioneers on the digital camera and computer software. They offered the in-person lessons at the headquarter of CPS in San Francisco each week. Contents of the lessons included how to purchase digital cameras, computers, and software as well as hands-on training on computer software usage.
President Henry Jang, Vice President Tina Waycie, Vice President Xiao Xiao, Vice President Donna Hom, Salon Chair Jiahong Zeng, Advisor Paul Tsang, Advisor Youmans Hsiong, Advisor Mak Manh Min, Ken Wu, David Liu, Eddie Ngau, Kwok Chun So, Raymond Gon, Steve Hsu, Hongqin Liang, Johnson Huang, and many others had been given seminars on photographic arts and knowledge. Speakers outside of CPS were also invited to provide lectures. Speakers were throughout United States, Japan, China, Canada, Indonesia,
Since COVID-19 pandemic, over Zoom had been used for CPS seminars, discussions, and lectures. While continue to have Zoom education twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays, in post pandemic time, San Francisco headquarter is re-opened for members to meet and lectures are provided in person again. In the past three years, CPS has conducted over 300 Zoom meetings on photographic education.
Starting 2023, led by Vice President Tina Waycie, a photographic education curriculum has been developed. The curriculum includes digital camera basic knowledge, photo composition, color management, widely used software such as Lightroom and Photoshop, cell photographic knowledge, how to become a member of Photographic Society of America (PSA) and Federation International Art of Photography (FIAP), and how to participate in International Salon Exhibition, etc.
One of CPS members stated that “in my late 70s, I am still able to capture the modern knowledge of photographic art and computer software, I am the beneficial of CPS education.
早期的攝影愛好者成立「華藝」是互相切磋影藝,也是在單色膠卷時代。隨著攝影領域里的技術革新,從單色膠卷發展到彩色膠卷到數碼相機與智能手機,攝影活動更普及。「華藝」更與時并進,有些會員先去大學修讀數碼攝影課程,然後自編教材在「華藝」傳授。
李良會友投入了大量時間與精力,把自己在大學學到的攝影知識編寫為教材,設計教學時間表向會員與非會員授課。胡新會友每周在「華藝」教援電腦知識,手把手地教學員們操作電腦。
鄭向鄭、盧佩鳳、蕭 霄、丹菁, Eddie Ngau 魏志堅、曾陸邦、熊泳渝、黃家煊、金山大衛、徐遂之、蘇國俊、伍兆傑、田夢民、曾嘉鴻、梁鴻慶、簡君烈等都有教授相機操作與電腦軟件如Lightroom與Photoshop後期處理數碼照片。在「華藝」的課程還有手機攝影與參加國際比賽的相關知識。
從2023年開始,由Tina Waycie副會長帶領,華藝為會員設計了關於攝影知識與藝術的糸統課程。這些課程包括照相機的基礎知識,軟件的使用,構圖技巧,如何加入美國攝影學會及國際攝影藝術聯盟,如何參加國際沙龍比賽等。
自2020年初的新冠疫情以來,華藝每週的攝影教學與分享活動從實體聚會改為在綱上舉行。利用科技資源,在Zoom的網上継續每週兩次的攝影教學、講座與分享。講座嘉賓除會員外,也邀請了日本、印尼、中國等地的講員在網上為華藝做講座。
資深會員/顧問在「華藝」45週年的紀念冊上寫道:「我是受益者:古稀之年學電腦,居然能追上時代,全拜華藝所賜。」
